Connector: Network Share

Restrictions

2. The maximum path length is 32767.

3. The maximum path level is 50 (will be increased in the future).

4. No trailing spaces in folder names, file names, or file extensions.

5. No trailing periods,

6. Any non-printable ASCII characters will not be filtered by SkySync.

7. Restricted characters in the file name: < > : " / \ | ? *

8. When creating a connector it must be 1 layer down from the root. Example C:/1st folder

Authentication

Integrated Authentication

1.When using Integrated Authentication for installation, the Navigation Panel uses the currently signed in user.

2.The Job Control panel will use the user account entered in the service setup.

3.The default is the local system account.

Manual Sign In

SkySync will use the login used to create the connector for both Navigation and the Job

Common Issues

Listed below are common issues, why they happen, as well as how they can be resolved if a resolution is possible.

Error: "Multiple Connections to a Server or Shared Resource..."

Cause: This can be caused by multiple connectors to the same Windows file server

Fix: There are two ways to resolve this:

Use the IP Address of the server as opposed to the Server Name when creating the connector for example " \\192.168.0.100\Share " as opposed to " \\ServerName\Share "

Create a different Domain Name System (DNS) alias for the server, and then use that alias to connect to the network share.

Error: Job Failure : "The path cannot be made relative to the parent"

Cause: This can occur when the Network share connector is made at a sub-level vs at the top level.

Fix: It is a best practice to configure network share connectors at the root. For example if the structure is " \\server\ShareName\employee\Personal Folder\ " then the path configuring the connector should be " \\server\ShareName "

Network-Attached Storage and SkySync

A network-attached storage system can be attached to a SkySync Server computer through the network redirector by using a file sharing protocol.

Common file sharing protocols include:

  • SMB (server message block)

  • CIFS (Common Internet File System)

  • NFS (network file share)

In general, if the disk resource appears as a remote server by means of a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path (for example, \\server_name\share_name) on the network, the disk storage system is supported as a location for SkySync network share connections.
